LIFOLAS M for Functional and Decorative Laser Marking
Aesthetics meet function: laser marking masterbatches make it possible
The decorative laser marking technique unlocks entirely new design possibilities for plastics. With our laser marking masterbatches, you can create abrasion-resistant and tamper-proof markings, as well as intricate patterns, high-contrast images and bespoke graphics directly in the polymer surface – all without inks or solvents. This contact-free process combines durability with aesthetics and is gaining traction in packaging design, consumer goods and the high-end sector.
LIFOLAS can be used to create delicate, decorative laser markings for individual, seasonal or limited-edition products, for example. | |
LIFOLAS M additive and combination masterbatches for decorative laser marking
The LIFOLAS M range of laser marking masterbatches offers:
Aesthetics in precision and perfection: marking images and patterns
Decorative laser marking goes beyond mere identification to showcase art and graphics on creative consumer products. Patterns, text, individual designs and details can be realised precisely and permanently – exactly as per your artwork and specifications:
Delicate graphics and lettering on stationery, containers, cups, plates or accessories
Premium, texture-enhancing patterns, ornaments or material imitations for cosmetics, including caps, vessels and applicators in beauty and care packaging
Perspective reliefs and 3D effects through graduated engraving depths
Seasonal series, bespoke product lines and limited editions
How laser marking works
Laser marking is carried out with a highly energetic, focused light beam.
The laser delivers energy precisely to the surface.
Surface absorption melts the polymer locally and temporarily, causing a colour change.
Depending on the added masterbatch such as LIFOLAS, the marking appears noticeably lighter, darker or coloured.
Some polymers (for example polycarbonate) already show good contrast without additives. For almost all polymers, however, special additives (laser additives) are needed for high-contrast marking. Methods include foaming, carbonisation or ablation.
The most common lasers for plastic marking are Nd:YAG lasers and fibre lasers. Fibre lasers operate at 1,050–1,070 nm, while Nd:YAG lasers work at 355 nm, 532 nm and 1,064 nm. The 1,064 nm Nd:YAG laser is most frequently used in plastic marking and is compatible with the widest range of laser additives.
Advantages of laser marking masterbatches in detail
Contact-free finishing without mechanical abrasion
Excellent lightfastness and chemical resistance
No additional inks – ideal for recycling loops
Extensive design freedom for unique, individual markings
Abrasion-resistant, long-lasting and tamper-proof
Thanks to these benefits, custom logos, QR codes, graphics, patterns or images have become a compelling feature of efficient, modern product design.
Whether functional or decorative, laser marking delivers the perfect blend of technical precision and creative design. If you are looking for abrasion-resistant, tamper-proof markings; creative accents; bespoke edition series; or sustainable finishing solutions, you will benefit from the flexibility and eco-friendliness of this innovative technology.
