The HDPE look for your PET bottle
The Velvet PET masterbatch from the Lifocolor PET Solutions range allows packaging designers and plastics processors to switch materials quickly and easily. It gives PET bottles the high-quality, velvety-soft feel of HDPE whilst retaining all the advantages of the PET-ISBM (injection-stretch-blow moulding) process.
Benefits for packaging design and plastics processing
- HDPE look and feel: A velvety matt texture combined with the optical clarity and geometric precision of PET.
- Efficient drop-in solution: Direct integration into existing ISBM production lines without the need for additional adaptation.
- Approved for food contact: Velvet PET is approved for contact with food.
Cost-effectiveness, sustainability and PPWR compliance
The PET-ISBM process offers significant advantages in terms of both the process and costs over HDPE extrusion blow moulding (EBM). The high mechanical stability of PET enables thinner bottles to be produced, while the net-shape process eliminates the typical material loss of up to 10 per cent. As PET has an established recycling infrastructure, the high availability of recycled PET (rPET) facilitates monomaterial strategies and compliance with the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). Furthermore, the low material weight and energy-efficient processes reduce the carbon footprint without limiting the wide range of design options.
Technical properties and flexible design options
The masterbatch formulations are tailored to the polymer and material system used (such as PET or rPET), as well as to the specific machine parameters. The range of optical effects includes translucent and opaque options, as well as subtle colour nuances, relief patterns and slim bottle geometries.
